Static Caravan Transport: All of Wales Covered
Static Caravan Transport in Wales — Free Quote, Any Region
Moving a static caravan anywhere in Wales, from the Gower to Anglesey, Pembrokeshire to Powys, takes specialist knowledge of Welsh routes. We match you with vetted, fully insured transporters who know North, Mid, and South Wales inside out, as part of our UK-wide static caravan transport service.
Which Part of Wales Are You Moving To or From?
Most transport operators in search results only cover North Wales. We cover all three regions, so tell us your route and we will match it to a transporter who knows those roads.
North Wales
The busiest market, with multiple specialists and fast turnaround. The A55 North Wales Expressway is wide and well suited to abnormal loads; the A5 through Snowdonia is narrow and restricted in places.
- Parks: Towyn, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Pwllheli, Anglesey
- Anglesey crossings via the A55 Britannia Bridge need pre-notification
- Fast turnaround, widest operator choice
Mid Wales
Thinner operator coverage and more route complexity. The A458, A470, and A489 are scenic but narrow in stretches, with real elevation changes on Cambrian Mountain routes, so book early and allow more planning time.
- Parks: Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Llanidloes, Powys
- Route complexity adds to cost; expect ~£1,500 base for a 10ft unit
- Book early, mid-Wales moves take more planning
South Wales
The easiest motorway access of the three regions. The M4 corridor (Newport, Cardiff, Swansea, Carmarthen) is wide and fast, but coastal B-roads to Pembrokeshire and Gower are narrow and need careful handling.
- Parks: Pembrokeshire (Narberth, Tenby, Saundersfoot), Gower, Carmarthenshire
- Expect ~£2,000 base for a 10ft unit to the far coast
- Largest geographic market, least covered by local search results
How Much Does Static Caravan Transport Cost in Wales?
Most operator pages will not put a number in front of you. Here are honest, indicative figures so you can budget before you ever pick up the phone.
Indicative rate guide
| Caravan width | Rate (per mile) | Minimum charge |
|---|---|---|
| 10ft (standard) | From £2.50/mile | ~£250 |
| 12ft (wide) | From £3.00/mile (+20%) | ~£300 |
Typical total job costs (10ft unit)
- To Mid Wales~£1,500
- To South Wales~£2,000
What can push the cost up?
- Distance: base rate multiplied by route miles is the biggest single factor.
- Caravan width: 12ft units cost roughly 20% more than 10ft.
- Access complexity: narrow Welsh B-roads and rural coastal sites add time and risk.
- Siting: disconnection, positioning, and reconnection add £300–£1,000 if required.
- Escort vehicles: some operators include these; others charge separately, so always ask.
- Season: summer is peak demand; winter moves may be cheaper.

Why Wales Needs Specialist Transport Knowledge
Standard road lane width in the UK is 2.55m. Most static caravans are 2.9–4.0m wide, so every Welsh move triggers abnormal load regulations before you have even left the driveway.
In England, abnormal loads often run motorway corridors. In Wales, routes frequently leave the motorway quickly: the A5 through Snowdonia, the A470 through the Brecon Beacons, and B-roads to Pembrokeshire coastal parks all present narrow sections, tight bends, and weight-restricted stretches.
Moves within National Park boundaries (Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons) may require additional local authority notification beyond standard STGO police notice.
Our network of Welsh transport specialists knows these routes by name. They have planned moves to Anglesey, Aberystwyth, and the Gower, not just the North Wales coast. For moves elsewhere in the country, see our national static caravan transport service.
Wales has 69,088 static caravan pitches generating £725m for the Welsh economy, and every single one of them needed a specialist transporter at some point.

What's Included and What's Extra
Knowing what sits inside a quote, and what does not, prevents surprises on move day. Here is how a typical Welsh job breaks down.
Always included
- Route planning and pre-move survey
- Police abnormal load notification (min. 2 working days lead time)
- Transit liability cover
- Delivery and positioning at destination
Escort vehicles
- Required by law when the load straddles two lanes, which virtually all static caravans do
- Most reputable operators include one escort vehicle in their quote
- Ask explicitly: "Is the escort vehicle included in this price?"
- Escort drivers must hold City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 certification
Siting
- Disconnecting utilities at origin, positioning on the new base, and reconnecting at the destination
- Usually quoted and charged separately: typically £300–£1,000
- Some operators bundle it; many transport-only operators quote without it
- Confirm at quote stage whether siting is included
What affects access charges
- Narrow lane access at collection or delivery site
- Soft ground or steep approach requiring extra equipment
- Tight bend or low bridge on the route
- Note any known access issues on the quote form, which keeps your quote accurate
The 3 Legal Steps Every Welsh Caravan Move Must Follow
Every legitimate static caravan move on public roads follows the same three legal steps. Your transporter handles all of them. Here is what is happening behind the scenes.
Police notification
All static caravans are classed as abnormal loads because their width (2.9–4.0m) exceeds standard lane width (2.55m). Your transporter must notify the relevant police authority at least two working days before the move. Routes crossing multiple police areas need notification to each.
Escort vehicle
At least one escort vehicle is required when the load straddles two lanes, which all static caravans do. Escort drivers must hold City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 certification. For especially wide or long loads, a second escort may be required.
Pre-planned route
The route must be pre-planned to avoid low bridges, weight-restricted roads, and sections too narrow for the load. For National Park roads in Snowdonia or the Brecon Beacons, the local authority may require additional notification beyond the standard police notice.
All transporters in our network handle every step as standard. You do not need to arrange police notification yourself; they manage it.
What to Have Ready Before You Request a Quote
The more detail you can give us, the faster and more accurate your quote will be. Have these six things ready:
Collection postcode: where the caravan is now.
Delivery postcode: where it is going (even approximate if moving to a new park).
Caravan make, model, and year: helps confirm width and length.
Caravan width: 10ft, 12ft, or 14ft (check the manufacturer plate if unsure).
Siting needed? Do you need disconnection at origin and/or positioning and reconnection at destination?
Access notes: any narrow lanes, soft ground, low bridges, or gated entrances at either end.
