Why Yorkshire Caravan Transport Needs a Specialist

A static caravan is legally an abnormal load the moment it leaves a park, and Yorkshire is one of the most complex counties in England for abnormal-load routing. Any caravan over 3.65m wide requires advance ESDAL notification to all highway authorities along the route. At 4.3m a front or rear escort vehicle becomes legally mandatory. North Yorkshire Council only accepts ESDAL electronic submissions, with no phone or letter notifications treated as valid.

We hold the correct haulage authorisations, file ESDAL notifications as standard, and plan every route around Yorkshire's bridge weight limits, road widths, and police notification requirements before we move anything. This is part of our nationwide service from Static Caravan Movers UK, and for general UK-wide coverage you can also see our national static caravan transport service.

Abnormal Load Compliance

ESDAL notifications filed for every move, with police authorisation handled for all Yorkshire forces. You never touch the paperwork.

Fully Insured Transit

Transit insurance is included with every move. Your standard site insurance does not cover a caravan while it is on the road.

Route Survey Included

We plan around Dales narrow lanes, Moors weight bridges, and coastal park access before the move date, not on the day.

Yorkshire Sub-Region Coverage

We move static caravans across all four historic counties. Wherever your unit is sited, or wherever it is going, we know the routes.

North Yorkshire

Scarborough, Whitby, Harrogate, Skipton, Ripon, Northallerton

Includes the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. ESDAL is mandatory here with a minimum of 2 clear working days notice. Dales routes through Swaledale and Wensleydale often need an A59, A684 or A65 diversion, as single-track lanes are impassable for wide loads. Moors coastal park routes are pre-planned per move.

West Yorkshire

Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax

Victorian-era Pennine bridges carry weight and height restrictions, so every crossing is assessed case by case. We use the M62 and M1 corridors for long-haul wide loads, then confirm the last-mile routing with West Yorkshire Police.

South Yorkshire

Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley

The M1, M18 and M180 corridor gives strong motorway access. Sheffield's Peak District fringes add gradient challenges for larger units, so routes are planned around Hillsborough and Stocksbridge accordingly.

East Yorkshire

Hull, Bridlington, Beverley, Hornsea, Skipsea, Goole

The flattest sub-region, and the best conditions for wide loads. Humber Bridge crossings require a separate notification to the Humber Bridge Board, which is not covered by ESDAL alone. We manage both notifications for you.

Yorkshire Route Challenges

Yorkshire is not one job. A move across the flat East Riding is night and day compared with a unit threading out of a Dales valley. Here is what we plan for before we ever quote a date.

Have a complex Yorkshire route?

  • Yorkshire Dales narrow lanes. B-roads and single-track passing-place roads in Swaledale and Wensleydale cannot accommodate caravans wider than around 3.0m. Wider units route via the A59, A684 or A65, planned before booking.
  • North York Moors gradients. Steep moorland crossings and exposed sections on the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough need careful load assessment. Coastal parks near Whitby are reachable only via specific approved routes.
  • Weight-restricted bridges. Yorkshire's moorland and Pennine infrastructure includes numerous weight-restricted bridges. Exact limits vary per structure and are verified through ESDAL route planning, never assumed.
  • ESDAL in North Yorkshire. Only electronic ESDAL submission is accepted, with 2 clear working days minimum notice. New ESDAL accounts take 2 to 3 days to process, reinforced by December 2025 North Yorkshire Police guidance.
  • West Yorkshire Police. A separate abnormal-load notification process applies to the Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield corridor. We handle it, not you.
  • Humber Bridge. East Yorkshire crossings need a separate notification to the Humber Bridge Board, which ESDAL does not cover on its own. We file both.

Yorkshire Transport Questions

The things Yorkshire caravan owners ask us most.

Do you need a permit to move a static caravan in Yorkshire?
Yes. Static caravans are legally abnormal loads, so any unit wider than 3.65m requires advance ESDAL notification to all highway authorities and police along the route. North Yorkshire Council mandates ESDAL electronic submission with at least 2 clear working days notice. We file all notifications as a standard part of the service, so you do not need to handle the paperwork.
How much does static caravan transport cost in Yorkshire?
Costs depend on distance and caravan width. A 30 to 80 mile Yorkshire move typically costs £300 to £500 for a 10ft unit or £360 to £600 for a 12ft unit. Moves of 80 to 150 miles start from £450. Escort vehicles add cost for units wider than 4.3m, and de-siting or re-siting is quoted separately at £300 to £1,000. Call us or submit the form for a fixed price on your specific route.
Do you cover all parts of Yorkshire, including North Yorkshire and the Dales?
Yes. We cover North, South, East and West Yorkshire, including coastal parks around Scarborough, Whitby and Filey, Dales routes via Skipton and Harrogate, and urban moves in Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull and Doncaster. For narrow Dales routes we pre-plan the alternative A-road corridor before committing to a date.
How long does a Yorkshire caravan transport take?
Most same-county moves are completed in a single day. Multi-stage jobs involving de-siting, road transport and full re-siting may take two days. Note that North Yorkshire routes require ESDAL notification at least 2 clear working days before the move, so factor this into your timeline when booking.
Does my static caravan insurance cover it during transport?
No. Standard static caravan insurance does not cover your unit during road transport. Transit insurance is provided by us and is included in the transport cost. Your caravan is covered from the moment our driver collects it until it is re-sited at the new location.
Can you move a static caravan to or from a private plot in Yorkshire?
Yes. Private-land moves make up a significant part of our Yorkshire work, including buyers who have purchased a second-hand unit and need it delivered to a garden, smallholding or rural plot. Get in touch with your postcode and we will advise on access requirements and ground preparation before confirming the booking.
